Dynamic mechanical analysis with the Triton Tritec 2000B

The dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) is often used to determine the properties of plastics, coatings or resins. While deforming a sample mechanically, the responding signal is being measured. The deformation is being carried out sinusoidal targeting a predefined force or deformation. The measured signal is being recorded as function of temperature, time or frequency. The most evaluated properties are the storage modulus, the loss modulus as well as the phase angle (tan δ) as function of the temperature.

The DMA allows among others the determination of:

  • the viscoelastic material properties (e.g. moduli and phase angle (tan δ)
  • the temperatures, which characterize the viscoelastic behaviour,
  • especially the glas transition temperature, for which the DMA is the most sensitive method,
  • the attenuation
  • the properties of a curing resin
  • the fequency-dependency of mechanical properties, e.g. creeping

There are different specimen holders available for different kinds of strain (bending, compression, shearing and pulling) and different kinds of specimen geometries.
