After retiring from teaching and research at the University of Paderborn, I am now supporting the International Foundation College at the University of Paderborn in all academic matters. This college offers specific preparation courses for international high school graduates (secondary school graduates) whose school diploma does not directly entitle to enter a bachelor study program at a German institution of higher education. This activity is a continuation of my long-standing commitment to the establishment and organization of a joint Bachelor degree course in Chemistry between the Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) in Qingdao, China, and the University of Paderborn.
During the active days of my research group, we were focused on the functional understanding of biological macromolecules and on the control of molecular processes. Our methodology was based on computational techniques like molecular modeling, QM/MM-methods, and molecular dynamics procedures. Together with various cooperating experimental research groups, we applied a synergistic approach towards the investigation of functional (bio)polymers
